To be successful at selling anything online, whether it would be products or services, you need to have targeted traffic visit your website.  Without targeted traffic, you have no chance of creating a successful business online.

Targeted traffic consists of people who are interested in your product offer from the very beginning.  In all likelihood, they are looking for a product comparable or similar to what you are offering and find your website via the search engines.

Therefore, making sure your website ranks highly in the search engines is vital to achieving success with your online business.  The search engines constantly change the algorithms that determine how a site will rank in their results pages, but a common theme to how your site will rank in their results pages is making sure that your website is relevant to the topic you want to rank highly in.

Since people find topics they are interested in via keywords, or words used to refer to the topic in question, you need to make sure those keywords and related words appear on your site.  However, you can overuse those keywords and related words, as the search engines will recognize intentional “stuffing” of specific words and penalize your site by lowering its rankings in their results pages or even remove your site from their results pages entirely.

It’s important that you develop a delicate balance between using the specific keywords you want to rank highly in enough throughout your site and not overusing them where your site will get penalized or banned.

Most inexperienced Internet marketers don’t realize when they first come online that they need targeted traffic to make the income and live the lifestyle they’ve heard about and desired for themselves.  After all, people need to know about your product offer(s) and purchase them in order for you to make profits from your online business.

Once those new Internet marketers learn they have to gain targeted traffic to their websites, they think they have to spend money to gain that targeted traffic.  They start to despair because many of them don’t have much money to utilize in their online ventures when they are first starting out.

While you can spend money to gain the targeted traffic you need (via PPC ads, Google AdWords, and other methods), you don’t have to spend money to gain the targeted traffic you need either.  There are many quality ways to gain targeted traffic to your website for free.

Of course, you must realize that gaining targeted traffic to your website will require either time, money, and in some cases, both, so if you don’t spend money to gain that targeted traffic, it’s very likely you’ll have to utilize some of your time to gain that targeted traffic, but if the method is sound, the time and work put into utilizing this method will be well-worth it as your online business will gain the targeted traffic it needs to provide you with the income and lifestyle you desire.
