Persistence in a home based business?

That’s the million-dollar question that people ask themselves way too late in the game.

What do I mean by that?

I have seen it over and over. A well-meaning person starts a home based business because they think they can make some quick money or it sounded like a good idea.

Six months later (or less) they feel like a failure.

Many people look down on this profession, and yes, it is an incredible profession, because they see and hear about many failures.

First, there are rarely any failures.

People just quit.

Why?

People (you probably know someone like this) do not have persistence in a home based business because they lack vision and commitment.

In the book, The 7 Minute Solution by Allyson Lewis, there is a quote form the Navy Seals creed.

“I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity.
My Nation expects me to be physically harder and
mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked
down, I will get back up, every time. I will draw on
every remaining ounce of strength to protect my
teammates and to accomplish our mission. I am
never out of the fight.”

What if you adopted this creed for your home based business?

Persistence in a home based business?

I have to laugh at the lame excuses we make up as to why we have not succeeded in our home business.

I’m not saying it is easy, although, some make it look like that. It has NEVER been easy for me. I don’t expect it to be.

But, I decided long ago that I was going persistence in a home based business!

I GOT CLEAR!

On what?

Maybe for you it is your kids, or your retirement, or that mission that you always thought about supporting.

The fact, is you have been playing small.

The question is… how is that working for you?

Do you have a pity party for yourself daily?

Or do you look for solutions and implement solutions that will work for you?

My friend, the time has come for you to fight for your freedom!

Take on the creed of the Navy Seals.

Get committed and don’t leave people behind.

I don’t want you to do this business for your teammates; I just want you to do it with them!

You must work on your skills. You must become a leader.

There are great systems that you can use for peanuts that will teach you how to market online and offline, how to prospect on the phone, and how to become a leader. My Lead System Pro is just one example of that.

I will tell you what got me clear… it was a defining moment that got me started in this profession…it was my family.

I remember the day like it was yesterday where my son, Matt climbed into my lap and asked me “Dad, do you still love me?”

That broke my heart, even as I write this 17 years later, my eyes are tearing up and my heart feels heavy.

When I asked him “Why would you ask that Matt?” His response was, “I just never see you anymore.”

Six month later I quit my corporate job and went into this profession full time.

To say I was willing to fight for my freedom and to be the dad I wanted to be was an understatement.

Where Did I Get the Strength for Persistence in a Home Based Business?

I love my family.

I love this profession.

It has given me my life back.

And my passion is to help as many people as I possibly can to get their life back. I can’t do it for them, but I can do it with them.

I can show them how to have persistence in a home based business by my example and leadership.

Success in business and in life is not as hard as most people think it is.

How to Become an MLM Leader with 10,000+ reps

Recently I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with a business leader. The interesting thing about this conversation was while they had been very successful in business they have never really built a sizable MLM organization or achieved any real success in MLM.

I sensed a passion stirring for new possibilities, some fear and anxiety of what could or might not be but most important an openness to learn.

I asked questions, I listened, I asked more questions and listened some more…

They said something like this…

I fell in love with the product but I did not personally meet my sponsor for months. I never really had someone that I could work with side by side.

My desire is to help people who have never really been successful in the MLM industry to become successful.

I just love the relationship building, the personal growth and empowerment part of this business.

Can you see what’s going on here?

Perhaps a frustration for their lack of success…were they taking responsibility for the results they had achieved or were they looking to cast blame?

What would a MLM Leader do if they were in this place?

Can you see where there might be an internal conflict of integrity that has been building up for them?

The thought of helping people to become successful is awesome; however, when you take responsibility for leading someone where you have never been can be scarier than Halloween being on Friday the 13^th.

All kinds of demons can show up in your minds eye.

There was another KEY thing they said that will continue to hold them back. Do you know what it was?

They are focusing on prospecting the ‘unsuccessful’.

This is what I refer to as sponsoring the weak. These people are typically below your social and economic level.

It’s called sponsoring down.

Why do people do this?

Do you know someone like this?

It is because they are comfortable talking to people at this level. This does not typically work for building leaders but it does make you feel good.

When you look for people who are not as successful as you, you will find them, lots of them. Unfortunately, these people typically are not willing to do what it takes to become a successful. You will feel the need to “Push them to success” but this never works long term.

Are you getting this?

And if you are not successful and you build a team of people who have failed in MLM or in business or life, odds are you are not going to reach your goals in the timeframe you desire.

Overcoming the MLM Fears and Failures

To overcoming this dilemma the first thing you need to do is to find a sponsor / mentor / coach who has been where you want to go. It is ideal if this person is your sponsor but not required.

If you already have a sponsor and a company and you are not reaching your financial goals then you MUST re-evaluate and decide if that business and the support you are getting will get you to where you want to go.

If not, take responsibility and create a change. It will be one of your best long term decisions.

Hire a new coach. (I did.)

Look for a better fit. Increase your chances of success. (I did that too!)

You can still use the product you fell in love with. (I am)

Just know that if you are in your MLM to create a massive leveraged income and you are not then take responsibility and get on a new path!

Make sense?

Get Committed. Put it in Writing.

You also need a written plan for you personal development. Do you have that?

You also need written goals? Do you have them?

For what you ask?

Set goals and track the number of:

New prospects
Business presentations
Follow ups
3 way calls with your upline
3 way calls with you downline
New business partners
New customers

The last KEY in Your Recipe for MLM Success

Define or redefine who is your ideal prospect. This might mean getting out of your comfort zone and prospecting people who are already successful in the industry and in business.

There is a universal truth that I hold.

Successful entrepreneurs are always open to looking at new ways to create new income streams.

Adopt this belief it will serve you incredibly well.

This does not mean that they will join your business but it will give you the confidence to at least ask if they are open.

You will be surprised with the number of people who will say yes to taking a look.

The only thing that we can control is the number of people we approach about our business. Why not approach people who are already a success?

The result will be with a small handful of leaders you can build a massive MLM business.

This is exactly how I built a team of over 38,000 reps in 16 countries and earned millions of dollars!

Social Media & Network Marketing Success: Sprint or Marathon?

One of the biggest challenges that we have in this industry is that too many people are told they can get rich very fast.Â You know, “If you get in the deal right now you will be rich in no time.”

I see it daily on Facebook and other social networks, “If you don’t get into this opportunity that you will be missing out!”

Novice networkers buy into the belief that they can make $200,000 a year and not do ANYTHING! My response is…yea right!

Well, my friend, hopefully you don’t buy into that garbage.

It is well meaning people like that who give our industry a bad name.Â Too much hype is never attractive.

The truth is if you want to become a success in network marketing, online marketing and social media (or for any business really) it takes time and training.

It takes time to learn marketing skills.
It takes time to build relationships.
It takes time to develop as a leader.

What skills do you need to become a success in social media & network marketing?

The number one skill is marketing.

Interestingly, we are in the industry of network marketing but 99% of the distributors have not been trained how to market.Â What are they told?Â You guessed it.Â Go make a list of 100 friends and family members.

What a relief it is when you learn the skill of marketing and copy writing.

Next, having an automated online system for your marketing and sales funnel is critical for success.Â Ideally, the system should have pre-tested lead capture pages and prewritten auto-responder messages (these are basically prewritten emails).

Education is vitally important.

This system should train you and your team to become a successful online marketer.Â Learning how to market using twitter, facebook, youtube, forums, articles and pay per click.

And lastly, and this is really important, is to have a coach and tribe (a group of peers) who will get down in the trenches with you and help you on your journey to success.

Who are you hanging out with?Â Do they help you to improve your game or hold you back?

Constant And Never Ending Improvement

I know for me it wasn’t always easy learning all this new stuff.Â In fact, more times than I would like to admit I felt like I was sinking in the education quicksand. It was a new language.Â I felt frustrated at times because I spent so much time learning and my business wasn’t growing.

Here’s what I have learned. See if this makes sense to you.

No skills create desperation.

Skills create confidence.

In the end, we must take responsibility for the growth of our business and our income.Â We must learn the proper way to promote and market our business and ourselves.Â We must learn proper etiquette as we join social networks.Â And we must be patient with our growth process.

Developing a six or seven figure does not happen overnight. It can take years.

One of my mentors once told me, ‘Terry, your business and your income will grow as fast as you do.” I didn’t really understand it at the time but now it makes so much sense.

My recommendation to you is simply this…enjoy your journey.Â Know that where you are right now is perfect.

Remember, you control where you spend your time.Â Will it be the TV or a book?Â Will it be a day at the beach or a day at a seminar?Â Will it be a new toy for yourself or a new Webinar?

And get this my friend.Â Your lifestyle right now, like it or not, is a reflection of the choices you have been making.

If that makes you uncomfortable…good.Â Maybe the time has come to makes some shifts in your life.Â Perhaps the time has come for you to get comfortable being uncomfortable.Â Personal growth and skill set development is not always easy.

When training for a 26.2 mile marathon it’s called hitting the wall. Everything in you says stop. You second-guess yourself and you REALLY want to quit.

You have to learn to push yourself physically and mentally.Â It is the only way you will cross the finish line and feel the glory of accomplishing your goal.

You can do this business and become a success.Â How do I know that?

It is easy; you are still reading this and you know deep inside that you can.Â Sometimes it is just that you are not sure if you want to work that hard because the payout is not guaranteed.

This business wasn’t always easy for me.Â All I can tell you is learning all those skills (and I continue to learn new skills) has changed my life more than I could have ever dreamed.Â And the same can and will be true for you if you persist and have a vision for success..

I’m 52 years old now.Â I started running marathons because someone told me that between ages 50 and 60 is when your body declines the most but, if you are in good or better health during that time that you will actually extend your life by 20 + years.

For me that was a no brainer. I’m willing to do the work and I know my desired outcome.

You must know your desired out come for your business.Â If you don’t, please figure that out right away!

Will you develop your business right the first time?

Not likely.

And that is PERFECT.

If you are like myself and many, many others . . .Â the truth is . . .Â you will not develop your online business right the first time.

We all make mistakes.

In fact, rarely do people accomplish anything right the first time they attempt it.Â This is called being human; it is part of the fabric of life.Â It is in the doing, the making of mistakes that we learn many valuable life and business lessons.

When I first got started in my first home business I did it wrong.

Some would say I was a success.

In fact, the CEO of the company said I would be the first person in the company to earn a million dollars.

You see, we had different interpretations of success.Â Â His was products sales and enrollments.Â Mine wasÂ “Quality of Life” being with my family.

That year I was awarded “New Director of the Year” out of 65,000 people.

An award was not what I was looking for.Â I was looking for a way that I could be home with my family and create a solid income.

The cost of this award was too much.Â I had spent too much time away from them.Â So, I sold my business and moved on to another business.Â That one didn’t work out financially so I moved on.Â And you know what . . . that one didn’t work out financially either.

I spent three and half years, trying my very best to create a business so I could create the quality of life I dreamed about.

Was this process frustrating? You bet it was. But, I was not giving up.

I had good intentions and I worked very hard but my thinking, my execution and my choices in companies were simply wrong.Â My paycheck made that VERY clear.

I had to take full responsibility for my decisions and my results.Â I knew that if I was going to be a success then it was up to me and only me.

My question for you is . . .

Do you take full responsibility for where you are in your business?

Do you take full responsibility for the quality of the relationships you have in your business and in your personally life?

Most people don’t.

If that is you.Â The time has come to create some shifts.Â No more blaming others. You must look at the part you play in bad relationships.

One of my coaches told me very bluntly, “Terry, for things to change, you must change.Â For things to get better you must get better.”

Initially that was a tough pill to swallow.Â I soon realize that she was right.

I became more determined.

I continued to feed my vision for success.Â I studied successful people.Â I studied their habits, their characteristics and then modeled them as best I could.

I did two more things . . . I had laser focus on my goals and I took action.

I gave it my all.

I worked on me.

The result . . .

Today, I have the lifestyle most people dream about. I have created a multi-million dollar business in twelve countries and I surround myself with high quality people who enjoy helping others, personal growth and skill set development.

My two kids have had two full-time stay at home parents from middle school through high school.Â They are now both in their twenties.Â And I’m proud to say that they are awesome people.

That is the pay out I was looking for.

And it was totally worth all the extra professional work, self-study and personal growth that I had to do.Â I am not the person I was 15 years ago.

Where are you in your business?Â What types of people do you attract?

If you are struggling with your business then odds are that you have more growing to do.Â And that’s perfect.

Do you have a plan for growing personally, growing professionally, enhancing your skill sets and shifting your thinking?Â If not, get one right away!

Odds are that you need a good coach and a support network that can help you during these challenging growth times.

Find them.

That’s your responsibility.

I encourage you to look at your thinking.Â Realize that your current thinking has created your current lifestyle.Â And if you don’t like it then you must change it.

Just know that if I can create these shifts in my life, you can too.

I believe in you . . . lot’s of people do.Â It is time for you to show up differently.

But, through a clear vision of what they wanted to accomplish, they have indeed created something pretty amazing.

Having come from an alcoholic home as a child, I had a lot of baggage that I needed to get rid of to have some measure of success as an adult.

Hi Folks,

At 5:15 this morning I woke up knowing it was a time to make a state change for myself.

Perhaps a knowing the time has come to step things up a notch. Not a little but a lot.

Perhaps it was the conversation I had with Christina last night about getting to the next level of leadership, success and Quality of Life.

Perhaps it was one of the conversations I had with team members yesterday were I heard struggle and frustration and I felt pain for them.

Then I was presented with confirmation…a gift from my friend and mentor Tony Robbins.
