How to Approach People You Don’t Know About Your Homebased Business

Last night on a team training we got into a discussion about how to do homebased business prospecting right.

The truth is the ONLY thing we can control in a homebased business whether it be MLM, Network Marketing or Direct Sales is the number of people we expose to our products and services.

The truth is everyone wants more homebased business leads. Some say they don’t have people to talk to. The reality is great prospects are all round us.

As we discussed on our call, finding or creating new mlm leads intimidates most people. It is crazy when you stop and think about it, getting new homebusiness leads is easy to do and easy not to do.

A Secret to Getting more Homebased Business Leads

Are you ready for this?

Don’t talk about your homebased business.

What I mean is don’t go into a pitch fest about how awesome your homebased business or products are when you first talking to prospects.

This is especially true if you are meeting people in the world of social media especially on Facebook.

One of the basic rules on online lead generation is give value and don’t make it about you.  Make it about the prospect.

Again, whether we are talking about getting homebased business leads online or local home based business leads we want to first figure out if the person is interested in what we have to offer.

I believe every presentation should actually be a conversation and in order to do this effective you must know something about the person you are talking to.

Questions are the Answer Homebased Business Whoas 

When I’m out and about and I see someone who has really good energy or an upbeat personality my ears always perk up.

If someone has a magnetic personality (great energy) they probably get pitched by homebased business entrepreneurs all the time.

Here’s how to be a great at Homebased Business Prospecting

• Engage them in conversation, compliment them
• Ask them about what they do, how long they have been doing it
• What to they like about it and dislike about it
• Tell them you enjoy helping people and you are a connector
• Be natural

As you ask questions, do it naturally. As Dale Carnegie says, “take a sincere interest in the other person”.

Homebased Business Prospecting Script

Just before you walk away ask, “Just throwing it out there but would you be interested in a side project that doesn’t interfere with what you are doing here at _________(wherever they work).

Your homebased business prospect will say:

• No thanks
• What is it?
• Sure

When they give you a positive response say, “Cool, what’s going on in your life that has got you open?” Listen carefully.

Then say, “I don’t have time to explain everything right now. Give me your contact info and I will email you some info, when do you think you can look at it and when would be a good time for me to follow up with you to see what you think?”

You now have to make sure you send your homebased business lead the email info, remember to compliment them, say that you can help them and be sure to follow up when they asked you to.

This is one of the biggest prospecting mistakes of homebased business reps–they drop the ball when they are supposed to follow up.

Make this a habit and watch your homebased business grow and proper.

Remember don’t be the rep that has verbal diarrhea all over the homebased business prospect.  Make it about the prospect not about you.

The Science of an Effective Phone Interview with a Home Business Lead

Ever wondered how long that first call with a home business lead should last?

I believe the length of the first call should be based on the chemistry going on during the call. Most should be kept under 15 minutes.  Some might last less than 5 minutes. 

Once you start doing a lot of calls, you’ll be able to tell within 60 seconds if this person is someone you want to invest your time in.  If, on the other hand, you’ve made a connection, you’ve probably also made a new friend, and before too long, you’ll have a new business partner.

Something else you want to consider in your prospecting is the availability of your prospects.  One of the most frustrating parts of building a home based business is trying to get hold of an uncommitted or uninterested prospect on the phone. 

When they have no relationship with you, the prospect is not very committed to you and doesn’t care about your process or how you spend your time.  As a result, more times than not, they are not available.  

You must make sure every home based business lead understands that what you have can help them reach their goals. 

By asking good questions, you will understand their needs and build a good relationship with your prospect early on.  It will save you a ton of time in the long run.

How do you customize your Home Based Business presentation?

Remember this: a good presentation is not a presentation but a conversation!  So how can you tell the story of your home based business in a conversational manner? Your first step is to find out about your prospect.  What are their needs and goals?  What’s driving them to earn more money, and what would that do to improve their Lifestyle?

Tip:     Any time you get a response from a prospect, whether it be from home business lead or a self generated MLM lead, it is CRITICAL that you call that prospect back ASAP!  The longer you wait, the more likely your prospect will forget you and your site.  I set a goal to call them back within 24 hours.  Normally, it’s within 4 hours. When I do this, they always remember me.  I have now set myself apart from anyone else who might be pursuing them for their opportunity.

Here's a great little home business lead script you can use. 

You say,     “Hi, is (use their first name)  there?”
They say, “Yes, this is _____.”
You say,     “______, this is (your first name) how’s it going? Do you have a minute or have I caught you at a bad time?”
They say,    “I have time.”
You say,    “You recently expressed an interest in generating some additional income from home, how can I help you?”
They say,     “Whatever they say.”
You say,     “May I ask you a few questions?”
They say,    “Sure.”
You say,     “What are you looking for in a business?”
They say,     “Blah, Blah, Blah.”
You say,     “What kind of work do you do today?”
They say,  “Sure.”
You say,    “Have you ever had your own business before?”
They say,    “Yes”
You say,    “Can you tell me a little about it?”
They say,    “Blah, Blah, Blah”
You say,     “What did you enjoy about it?” (These are Hot Buttons)
They say,    “Blah, Blah, Blah”
You say,     “What did you not like about it?”(These are Hot Buttons)

Whether or not they had a home business

You say,     “What are you looking for now in a home business?”  (Hot Button)
They say,    “Blah, Blah, Blah”
You say    “How much money are you wanting to generate in the first 12 months of your business knowing that you’ll be starting at ground zero and building it up?”
They say,     “$3000/month”   (If they don’t know, they really are not that serious.  Watch for these numbers being too high and unrealistic.  If someone wants to make six figures and only work 10 hours a week, that’s not real.)
You say,    “That’s good.  How many hours a week can you devote to your business per week to create that kind of income for yourself?”  This is where it can start to get iffy. You are looking for 7-10 hours/week. More hours are a more serious commitment.  Your goal is to make sure their income goals are in alignment with their actions.
They say,  “Probably 10 to 20 hours/week”
You say,     “Why do you think you will succeed in an independent business, and why should I invest my time in helping you to succeed?”
They say, “Blah, Blah, Blah.”
You say,    “Great!  Let me ask you one more question before I tell you about our company and products.  If our company and products meet your expectations and the system for success that I have for you meets your needs and you feel good about it–and I show you how you can meet your income goals, is a $xxxx start-up kit in your budget?”   

Note:     If they say yes, you definitely want to spend time explaining the home based business now and how they can benefit. 

If they say “No”
You say,    “We have another less expensive way to get started that costs $xx, but you won’t be able to earn the type of income that you are looking for.  Is that in your budget?”  If they say, “Yes” spend some time with them just not as much as you would as a serious business builder.  If they say “No”  you can say, “This business is probably not for you.”  If you are interested in being a preferred customer we have that as an option this is similar to a Sam’s or Costco membership. Would you like to do that now?”
   

When working with the cold market home based business leads or even online mlm leads that you have generated, you really want to focus your energy and time with the people who are serious about creating a change in their lifestyle. 

Talk is cheap.  I can’t tell you how many prospects have told me they were going to be big business builders.  Some have even asked me to pay for their BIG Kit, saying they will make me rich.  Don’t fall into this trap.  Look for those who are willing to walk their talk–making a time and financial commitment!

3 Tactics For Getting You New Leads Every Day

Lead generation have been around forever… way before the Internet people relied on their hustle to find new prospects for their business.

What you are going to learn about today are 3 proven tactics for lead generation.

Get new leads every day!

I have a question for you…

Are you a hoper or a hustler?

In his book “Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion” Gary Vanderchuk talks about having hustle, busting your butt and pushing yourself to make it happen.

It is a great book that talks a lot about your self-discipline and commitment for success. I highly recommend it.

Tactic 1: Work Expos

In my past I have done all kinds of Expos and Trade Shows and you know what?

These are taking place all year long. Today you can find Christmas Shows, Women’s Shows then there are Home & Garden Shows and Spring Shows and don’t forget the Car Shows, Boat Shows and Fishing Shows and Guns Shows. I could go on but you get the point I’m sure.

I have worked these as an exhibitor and attendee. I stopped spending money on expensive booths and just focused on talking to the exhibitors.

Why?

The exhibitors are hungry and the attendees were typically just curious.

I don’t know about you but I’m looking for motivated people with ambition, not tire kickers who have an interest but no commitment.

Talk to everyone, set a goal to collect X business cards before you come home. This approach is easy to do and yes, easy not to do. I always carry a pad just in case people do not have business cards. You must be prepared.

Remember, you are a hustler right?

Tactic 2: Use Sizzle Cards

A sizzle card could be a business card, a post–it note or a drop card that has a compelling headline and a phone number to call on it. This approach does require a minimal investment.

An example headline is “Earn $250,000/year from home. Don’t believe it don’t call. 1-800-xxx-xxxx”.

A great place to direct all these leads is to a Google voice mail. (it’s free)

You can do a Google search to find out how to set one of these up.

When you follow up and call the prospect, remember you are the one interviewing them. Be sure they qualify for your time.

Tactic 3: Business Card Collecting

This is as easy as it sounds. Just go around your area and collect as many business cards as possible.

It is really easy to get 20+ of these per day.

You can find them on cork boards, in restaurants, counter tops, styling salons, barbershops, auto shops, and coffee shops.

The fact is anyone who puts his or her business card out is looking for more income!

These people are motivated you just have to find out if they are open to look at what you have to offer.

How to Talk to Leads?

I’ve done 2-hour workshops on this alone.

Here’s a successful dialog I use…
“Hi (their first name), I picked up your card today and I wanted to ask you a quick question, would that be ok? (I always like to ask for permission as opposed to just talking at them. They always say yes.) Are you open to a side project that doesn’t interfere with what you are currently doing? If you are interested I can get you some info, in not no big deal.”

It is simply a casual question…are you open?

Then you send them to a website or invite them to a meeting or whatever you would like for them to see.

All of these 3 approaches will work if you work them.

Consistency is key to your success. AND all or these require any technical or Internet skills.

They are simple and they are duplicable.

Remember do NOT be attached to the outcome of these conversations.

The Best Free Traffic Strategies

Everyone wants more traffic.  Free traffic means more leads and this is a wonderful thing.

There are many free traffic strategies that you can use to start generating more mlm leads for your business.

The root of many of these begins in the world of Social Media where value based content is king.

Marketing online especially in the area of social media is about giving value. This is sometimes referred to as social equity.

It is based on the principle of valuable content + your links = traffic and leads.

The easiest place to begin is with Facebook.com.

There are other social networks like: twitter.com, youtube.com and digg.com and literally hundreds of others but these can get complicated.

It is important, if you are just getting started to keep it simple.

Pick one of these approaches and master it.

What do I mean by master it?

Stick with it until you are generating 10+ leads per day.

The challenge most people have (I know this from personal experience when I got started) is they jump around from approach to approach and never having success.

So, they try something else then something else, then something else…

What I have learned is… you are much better off to stay the course and figure one approach out.

AVOID the temptation to go after the next shinny object or marketing strategy that someone said who be so easy to generate 50 leads per day.

The old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.” This is very true in the world of online marketing and mlm lead generation.

Here are a couple of basic rules for your Facebook marketing:

• Give valuable information
• Never ask a new friend to review your links
• Become recognized as a leader
• Don’t play games like Farmville or Mafia Wars
• Be entertaining and enlightening
• Follow the 95/5 rule, 95% serves others 5% serves you
• Create interaction
• Be yourself and focus on helping others

Do you think you can find some prospects there?

This brings me to another question… Do you know who your ideal prospect is?

Without know this, you will have a difficult time finding and attracting them to your sales funnels or capture pages.

Be sure to figure out what Groups in Facebook your ideal prospect hangs out in. Start interacting and helping people with their problems.  Give value to the community.

Take the time now to define (in detail) your ideal prospect. Know who you are looking for, you can thank me later.

As you can begin to see, there are MASSIVE opportunities in Facebook alone for you to attract a flood of free leads.

Facebook gives you the ability to do video marketing, article marketing, even Per Per Click marketing.

Every person wants to follow a strong leader.

The truth is, it is not that difficult to position yourself as a leader in your prospect’s eyes. And if you are wanting to attract more MLM leads or prospects on Facebook for example, it is much easier than you might think.

But, it does require consistency.

Which is where most people fall short.

This like most things in life is easy to do and easy not to do.

My buddy and mentor, Jim Rohn said that to me years ago and it really applies to most everything you do or want to do.

This is a ‘black hat’ move that is not for everyone.

In fact, it is against policies and procedures.  It might get your account closed.

Create a Compelling Image

Be sure that your image is benefit driven and has a very clear call to action!

As with all your MLM marketing, you must create a compelling offer.  Here’s an example, note the red marker arrow pointing to that call to action!

This a great example of an ad that pulls attention. Again, if you use Fivver.com send this image and tell them you want your company logo and a “call to action” like this.

Now, here’s another productivity trick.

There is a little piece of software that you can get for free that will save you a bunch of time!

Unfortunately, it only runs on the Windows operating system.

It is called Smart Typing Assistant. You can download it here.

By simply typing a few character it will insert a whole string of text, multiple sentences if you like.

Here is an example:

When I type: cla [then press ENTER] here’s what gets inserted:

That’s pretty sweet don’t you agree?  This little utility will save you a bunch of time.

What you will see and learn below is that there are endless types of sales funnels to help you get quality prospects for you MLM business or any affiliate marketing that you are doing.

The perfect analogy is fishing.

You have to know what you are fishing for in order to know what bait to use. Use the wrong bait and the fish will never bite.

The same is true for only marketing.

Do not try to be everything to every body.

Know your prospect.

Speak to the pain, problems and wants of your ideal prospect.  Target your message and your conversion will be high.

Your sales funnel must capture the imagination of your mlm prospects.  Otherwise, your page will not convert.

This also means you should always be testing the conversion rates of your pages.

Testing is not the purpose of this post; just know that it is critically important to your overall success.

5 Steps to Create a Magnetic Facebook Profile

I was shocked yesterday when I followed up with a prospect. He is a young guy (early 20’s), I met him in the Atlanta airport.  I told him that I would send him a friend request on Facebook and provide some additional information.

His response was “I don’t have a facebook.”

His language gave it away.

“My friends tell me I’m the only guy in the world not on facebook” then he laughed and said he was going get one set up.

In this post, I’m going to cover the basics of setting up a magnetic facebook profile. You will learn the  key things that you must do to create more friend and prospects.  You will also learn things you will want to stay away from.

1. Your Photo

Be sure to have a professional looking photo of yourself (smiling of course) if you are going to use your Facebook account for business. Some people try to be savvy marketers and put a business logo there or a product.

Let me tell you this screams AMATEUR!

When I say professional, I am not saying you have to spend $100 on a photo shoot although you would probably have better results with that.  Just get a nice photo of yourself where you look like you are ready to do business.  You can read this post on how you can get a graphic designer to help you make it look really professional for only $5. Yep, 5 bucks.

2. About Me

This is where you really get to share who you are and what you are about.  The more information you put in here the approachable or attractive you will become to potential new business partners.

Remember people will check you out before they accept you as a friend or consider doing business with you.  So include info about your hobbies, interests, favorite books, quotes, and life experiences.  Do not be boring.  Don’t be too wordy.

Share more about your story, how you are branding yourself, what type of value you are going to share with the community and what people can expect from networking with you.

3. Relationships, Education, Arts, Sports, etc

These areas help to create a snap shot of your interests at a deeper level.  One of the important things you need to remember a small connection like ‘riding horses’ or some other topic can create a whole new conversation and relationship.  This business is all about making connection with people.  Facebook is all about making connections with people.

4. Photo Albums

I will give you a quick tip.  A sure sign that someone is a spammer on Facebook is that they have a beautiful photo of a model for their profile picture and only one photo. Or they have an album with lots of random photos.

Let people come into your world. Let them see you on vacations, with your family and friends. Basically what I’m saying is be real and be you.

5. Contact Information

Don’t hide from people if you want to do business with people.  Make yourself accessible.  That means having your phone number, email and Skype info.

This is where you will want to list any websites where people can connect further with you. I have three sites they are:

Try really hard NOT to include a company replicated site. This says that you are a novice online marketer.  You can easily solve this problem by buying a domain name like YourName.com and have it redirected to your company site.  What we want to do is to give the best first impression.

Implementing these 5 simple facebook profile strategies will definitely help you to create a more professional image and be more attractive to your prospects.

One more thing, it is important.

Do not post a bunch of games and apps of your facebook page.  They are highly annoying to most business professionals.

What People Think of You Is NONE of Your Business.

How many times has what other people thought of you held you back?

Has it held you back from talking to someone?

Has it held you back from creating and publishing videos?

Has it held you back form creating a blog?

For most people, what people think of you matters…TOO MUCH!

The truth is, this should only matter some of the time, not all the time. I have practiced the belief “What people think of me is none of my business” for years.

The result is I truly live life on my terms.  It’s a great feeling.

I have taught this principle to my kids when they were young and it has served them incredibly well and they are awesome adults now.

I say as long as you are coming from a place of integrity and good intentions to go for what ever you want.

My question for you is how does this show up for you in your business and life?

Are you concerned about looking good and being perfect?

The reason most people are not successful in their business is their mindset.

Without the right mindset nothing else really matters.

Whenever you say, “naturally those people make a ton of money because they have a big list and that’a how they place high in affiliate contests” you are reacting to what you see.

Whenever you decide “I’m going to figure out how to drive massive traffic even run my own ads” you are responding.

You can do this too.

Don’t make excuses…take action and create your own results then do it again until you get your desired outcome.

Real Time MLM Leads can be created very easily and effectively by using video marketing.

This highly effective promotional strategy does not require much money.  In fact, if you are serious at all about building your MLM online then you must create a recognizable brand that people get value from.

Think about it…the reason a video is effective is that prospects get the chance of not only seeing the concept but also the person who is sharing the information.

It’s about connection with your prospects.

It about helping the prospect to connect the dots on the topic that you are sharing.

Buying MLM leads sucks.

They are over sold and under qualified. They are a waste of your time and your money.

Creating your own MLM business leads is not an easy task (at first) but once you learn the skills, you will have people coming to you. It is one of the smartest and best activities you can do to increase your income.  Don’t go over board and go into 100% in education mode. Life and this business is about balance. You must continue to prospect and present your business.

FACT: Money Follows Skills.

Investment in yourself and in your business. then you will get to that pot of gold with fresh, unique leads.

1. Create your own sales funnels that stands out from the regular websites. Put your personality into it. Sell yourself as a teacher and answer the questions on your prospect’s mind.  Describe your experience and share why you joined your business and what you offered your team members when they join you. Please don’t be lazy in your skill development.

Create a plan (hire a coach if you need to), set goals and take action. When you do these things you will be on your way to controlling the number of leads you get and be in control of your income.  And that my friend, is a beautiful thing.
