7 Minutes to a Remarkable Life?

Could it really be possible to create a remarkable life 7 minutes at a time?

The answer is yes!

As we wrap up 2011 and reflect what we have accomplished or perhaps a better question is what have we not accomplished but intended to accomplish?

We really need to stop and evaluate where we are spending our time and is that investment in time fulfilling us and taking us closer to creating the remarkable we truly desire?

Answering “Yes” is what will make you happy.

A couple of weeks ago I received my executive book summary of  “The 7 Minute Solution” where Darren Hardy reviews the top business books.

I was very intrigued.

I immediately went to amazon.com and purchased the book.

By the way this was just released December 27, 2011.

Here’s what I discovered…

This is the perfect book for any one who wants to be fulfilled with their life.

I discovered that this book while in not tactical for building a network marketing organization or home business has everything to do with building a loyal team.

As a leader, I feel it is our job to lead people and to assist people to create a remarkable life…whatever that means to the individual.

Here are a few key questions that really caught my attention. I have added some comments to tie them into our business.

1) Are you really aware of what you want from your life (or business)?
Life will give you exactly what you demand, but first you must clarify your ideas in writing and create an action plan.

2) Are you motivated?
Know the force that pushes you to stretch yourself for your goals. Create 90-day goals and then break down into mini goals and you will experience the thrill of success more often.

3) Are you growing and Learning?
Your brain has incredible potential but is functions on a use it or lose it basis. Growth is critical because it ignites your enthusiasm for letting go of old habits. (Hmmm am I talking to you now?)

4) Are you engaged?
Are you focused on your highest pay off activities (prospecting, presenting, following up and enrolling) or are you getting distracted?

5) Are you persevering?
Making significant changes requires perseverance. Why? Bad habits are hard to break. Sometimes by shifting our language or how we spend our time and who we spend our time with can yield massive breakthroughs.

6) Are you using your talents?
When you focus on your strengths, for example building relationships as opposed to trying to learn all the online marketing strategies you will build your team faster and become profitable more quickly.

7) Are you living with faith and belief?
Faith and belief compels you to look beyond yourself, to reach out to others and give of yourself.  Knowing that your business and products help others are key to you staying in the game and developing a business that will lead to a 6 or 7 figure income.

As you can see these questions really apply to everyone no matter what their profession.

At the end of the day, my belief is that we MUST be consciously aware of what we truly desire and focus all of our energy on accomplishing that.

Let me ask you a question, do ever struggle in your business, do you get frustrated because you are not where you want to be?  I know I have.

Your lifestyle can be totally different two years from now if you create some shifts in your thinking and actions. I have seen this happen first hand over and over again.

The fact is we all have challenges… it is called the fabric of life.

You are here for answers so let me help you create some positive shifts in your business and your life

First, take responsibility for what you have created or perhaps better said what you have not created.

The simple act of doing this will help you stand out as a leader.  Others may not see this act but you will know it.  You are the most important person there is to impress.

By taking a stand for your future you can be proud of yourself.

Here’s a team-building tip:

When you talk to your team members, let them know you struggle at times and that you have challenges too.  It also shows people that you are vulnerable which most people find attractive. You are like them and the are not alone.

Success in life, in relationships, and in business is built on the small decisions you make.

Let me ask you a question, are you up for a shift that will help you change your thinking and self image?

Tonight when your head first touches your pillow I want you think about what you have created up until this point in your business then say to yourself “Everything that has happened to me has happened for a reason and it has prepared me for what I am about to create.”

Then image in vivid detail what your ideal business will look like.

Let me share mine… My business is perfect.  It generates massive passive income to me every single month like clockwork and it continually grows.  I get to work with people that I really enjoy being with. I get to help people from all walks of life and circumstances and assist in their transformation into leaders.  I have the privilege of speaking in front of large groups of people sharing my message of hope, new possibilities and financial freedom.  I hear from people every day on how much of a difference I have made in their life.

My team is highly motivated and self-directed. They are teachable coachable and trainable.  They talk to people everyday and support the people they bring into the business.  We work together to develop innovative marketing solutions and change people’s lives every single day.  My team makes great money, which allows them to create the quality of life they desire for their family. Abundance is all around us.

When I get up in the morning I actually write those two paragraphs in my journal.  I invite you to do the same.  This exercise only takes a few minutes and  I think you will be impressed on what happens to you and your business with this simple daily activity.

I am so proud to be a network marketing professional.  It has given me my life back and allowed me to become that dad and husband that I wanted to be.

I have really made a difference in people’s lives. I have really made a difference for my family.  Both of my kids from ages 8 & 10 have had two full time stay at home parents.  How many people do you know who can say that?  I have worked my butt off and I did it for the love of my family

And in the process I have helped people to earn over $1,000,000 cash money in their bank account.  Together we have had a positive impact on tens of thousands of people around the world.  How cool is that?  How many people in corporate America can say they have done that?  The answer is not many. This profession offers the same to you.

This profession has a level playing field.

What do I mean by that?  Everyone starts at the same place and your income is a reflection of your contribution of your business and product movement to the market place.

So why do some struggle and some succeed?

All too often people live in the past and maintain old habits; they focus on what is not working instead of focusing on what they can do in the future to create the desired lifestyle.  They don’t set goals, they don’t track their results and they don’t make adjustments.

I’ve been in this profession full-time for now for 17 years. And during that time you can believe I’ve experienced my fair share of challenges and setbacks.  At times, I accomplish a goal then get knocked back down.  I remember talking to an industry veteran once and told him I felt like I was in a bubble and could never break through the $5,000/month barrier. I felt I would push, push, push only to get slapped back down.  It was very frustrating.  Can you relate?

He suggested that I continue to work on myself and to get a coach. Which I did and boy did that ever make a positive difference

It is not what happens to you that matters, it is how you react to it that counts.

Often people will make a comment to my wife Amy and myself and they we have it easy.

Well the reality is we do not focus on the challenges or problems that we have.  We do not make them the center of our life.  In fact, we have the core believe that something good comes out of every situation and only good things happen to us.

How do you think this makes us feel?  I can tell you, we feel empowered and in control!

When I have a challenge, I have found it is best to look at it square in the eye and face it head on.  Maybe it is because my dad told me when I was going to college that there is a brick wall in front of you and you can’t go over it; under it or around it you must go through it.

Most people call this persistence and a do whatever it takes attitude.

Zig Zigler says, you must adopt an “It’s Now or Never” attitude and get rid of your ‘stinking thinking’.

No matter where you are, where you have been, what counts most is where you are going.

Everyone in MLM or network marketing experiences the frustrations of putting time into people who say they want success but simply do not follow through.

The lesson that I have learned is to listen to what people say then watch what they do.  Spend your time with people who deserve your time and not with the ones who need your time

Watch your thinking. There is no need to get emotional about it, it is just the way it is.

I invite you to learn to be patient with the process and to stay true to your dreams and desires.

You must start to take responsibility for your success.  No one else will.

Here a three action items that you can do today to create a better tomorrow.

1)   Have clearly defined goals
2)   Visualize the success of your ideal business and lifestyle
3)   Stay disciplined and focused

Let me wrap this up by sharing what one of my coaches told me when I was stuck at $5,000/month and just could not break through.

She said, “Terry for things to change, you must change.  For things to get better, you must get better.”

You can do this.  I believe in you!

Lessons From a Wanna Be Million Dollar Earner in 1998

Yesterday I got the bug to clean part of my office closet.  I was surprised at the amount of junk I had saved.

I was in major throwaway mode. To my delight, I found some real gems that I think you and I both can learn from.

In 1998, I was at this point in my network marketing career where I had been in involved in about 4 companies in 4 years.  OUCH!

We were tapping into the savings that we set aside for our kid’s college education and Amy, my wife told me to get a ‘real job’ again.

…I had caught the MLM lifestyle bug, I had a dream to be free…

One of my problems was I had met people who had earned millions of dollars in the industry…I just knew in my gut that I could too…but I just didn’t have my act together.

Do you know anyone like that?

In the video below I share some of my lessons (mistakes) from 1998.

Christmas is over. Don’t cry!

This picture makes me laugh, and fills me with gratitude.

We all have so much to be grateful for.  For me, the reason I work so hard in my business is I can be there for my family.  My daughter Christina, hubby Nick and grand baby Bash are so important to me.

One of the best things about building a successful online business is being able to spend time with family.  At the beginning of this year my son Matt and I went on a father and son boondoggle.

To where?

Maui, Hawaii.

We had a blast!  Our theme was calamari and beer.  Everywhere we went we tested the local recommendations.

No doubt that was a trip we will both always remember. There is a video on my facebook page where you will see us ziplining and whale watching and we even jumped off a 50 foot waterfall. That was a rush!

Why I am sharing all of this?

While another year is gone, you need to be excited because you get to start reflecting on 2010 and planning your 2011.

Think about what worked for you.  Think about what did not work for you. Think about the adjustments you need to make to your marketing, your prospecting, your leadership development, your relationships and most importantly you why are you in this industry.

Success is really up to you.

I can tell you first hand, at age 53, I study more now than when I was in college.  I’m so grateful for this opportunity!  I get the timing of where I am am.  I’m clear about where I want to go.

Are you?

Do you need some tough love?  Do you need a kick in the butt?

I have discovered that you you can be a victim or a victor.  Life happens, deal with it.

I want you to know that you really can become massively successful in network marketing. If I can do it, you can too.  It requires a lot of work…are you willing to show up for that?

Are you willing to take consistent action and ask for help when you need it?

One of the biggest challenges that we have in this industry is that too many people are told they can get rich very fast.  You know, “If you get in the deal right now you will be rich in no time.”

I see it daily on Facebook and other social networks, “If you don’t get into this opportunity that you will be missing out!”

Novice networkers buy into the belief that they can make $200,000 a year and not do ANYTHING! My response is…yea right!

Well, my friend, hopefully you don’t buy into that garbage.

It is well meaning people like that who give our industry a bad name.  Too much hype is never attractive.

The truth is if you want to become a success in network marketing, online marketing and social media (or for any business really) it takes time and training.

It takes time to learn marketing skills.
It takes time to build relationships.
It takes time to develop as a leader.

What skills do you need to become a success in social media & network marketing?

The number one skill is marketing.

Interestingly, we are in the industry of network marketing but 99% of the distributors have not been trained how to market.  What are they told?  You guessed it.  Go make a list of 100 friends and family members.

What a relief it is when you learn the skill of marketing and copy writing.

Next, having an automated online system for your marketing and sales funnel is critical for success.  Ideally, the system should have pre-tested lead capture pages and prewritten auto-responder messages (these are basically prewritten emails).

Education is vitally important.

This system should train you and your team to become a successful online marketer.  Learning how to market using twitter, facebook, youtube, forums, articles and pay per click.

And lastly, and this is really important, is to have a coach and tribe (a group of peers) who will get down in the trenches with you and help you on your journey to success.

Constant And Never Ending Improvement

I know for me it wasn’t always easy learning all this new stuff.  In fact, more times than I would like to admit I felt like I was sinking in the education quicksand. It was a new language.  I felt frustrated at times because I spent so much time learning and my business wasn’t growing.

Here’s what I have learned. See if this makes sense to you.

No skills create desperation.

Skills create confidence.

In the end, we must take responsibility for the growth of our business and our income.  We must learn the proper way to promote and market our business and ourselves.  We must learn proper etiquette as we join social networks.  And we must be patient with our growth process.

Developing a six or seven figure does not happen overnight. It can take years.

One of my mentors once told me, ‘Terry, your business and your income will grow as fast as you do.” I didn’t really understand it at the time but now it makes so much sense.

My recommendation to you is simply this…enjoy your journey.  Know that where you are right now is perfect.

Remember, you control where you spend your time.  Will it be the TV or a book?  Will it be a day at the beach or a day at a seminar?  Will it be a new toy for yourself or a new Webinar?

And get this my friend.  Your lifestyle right now, like it or not, is a reflection of the choices you have been making.

If that makes you uncomfortable…good.  Maybe the time has come to makes some shifts in your life.  Perhaps the time has come for you to get comfortable being uncomfortable.  Personal growth and skill set development is not always easy.

When training for a 26.2 mile marathon it’s called hitting the wall. Everything in you says stop. You second-guess yourself and you REALLY want to quit.

You have to learn to push yourself physically and mentally.  It is the only way you will cross the finish line and feel the glory of accomplishing your goal.

You can do this business and become a success.  How do I know that?

It is easy; you are still reading this and you know deep inside that you can.  Sometimes it is just that you are not sure if you want to work that hard because the payout is not guaranteed.

This business wasn’t always easy for me.  All I can tell you is learning all those skills (and I continue to learn new skills) has changed my life more than I could have ever dreamed.  And the same can and will be true for you if you persist and have a vision for success..

I’m 52 years old now.  I started running marathons because someone told me that between ages 50 and 60 is when your body declines the most but, if you are in good or better health during that time that you will actually extend your life by 20 + years.

For me that was a no brainer. I’m willing to do the work and I know my desired outcome.

You must know your desired out come for your business.  If you don’t, please figure that out right away!

The Practice of Discipline

Discipline yourself to do what you know you need to do to be the very best in your field. Perhaps the best definition of self discipline is this: “Self discipline is the ability to make yourself do what you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.”

It is easy to do something when you feel like it. It’s when you don’t feel like it and you force yourself to do it anyway that you move your life and career onto the fast track.

What decisions do you need to make today in order to start moving toward the top of your field? Whatever it is, either to get in or get out, make a decision today and then get started. This single act alone can change the whole direction of your life.

Seven Steps to Success

There is a powerful seven step formula that you can use to set and achieve your goals for the rest of your life. Every single successful person uses this formula or some variation of this formula to achieve vastly more than the average person. And so can you. Here it is:

1. Decide What You Want

Step number one, decide exactly what it is you want in each part of your life. Become a “meaningful specific” rather than a “wandering generality.”

2. Write it Down

Second, write it down, clearly and in detail. Always think on paper. A goal that is not in writing is not a goal at all. It is merely a wish and it has no energy behind it.

3. Set A Deadline

Third, set a deadline for your goal. A deadline acts as a “forcing system” in your subconscious mind. It motivates you to do the things necessary to make your goal come true. If it is a big enough goal, set sub-deadlines as well. Don’t leave this to chance.

4. Make A List

Fourth, make a list of everything that you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal. When you think of new tasks and activities, write them on your list until your list is complete.

5. Organize Your List

Fifth, organize your list into a plan. Decide what you will have to do first and what you will have to do second. Decide what is more important and what is less important. And then write out your plan on paper, the same way you would develop a blueprint to build your dream house.

6. Take Action

The sixth step is for you to take action on your plan. Do something. Do anything. But get busy. Get going.

7. Do Something Every Day

Do something every single day that moves you in the direction of your most important goal at the moment. Develop the discipline of doing something 365 days each year that is moving you forward. You will be absolutely astonished at how much you accomplish when you utilize this formula in your life every single day.

Action Exercises

Here are two things you can do to put these ideas into action immediately.

First, decide exactly what you want, write it down with a deadline, make a plan and take action – on at least one goal – today!

Second, determine the price you will have to pay to achieve this goal and then get busy paying that price – whatever it is.

Spring time is the perfect time for your to re-evaluate your goals, action plan and the results that you have gotten so far this year. Most people find themselves working their fingers to the the bone, and what do they get? Boney fingers! (haha) I couldn’t resist that one.

Most people find themselves frustrated and the result is they let go of their dreams and goals. Don’t let this happen to you…
