What does it take to be an MLM Leader?

Leadership Development

MLM Leader: someone that encourages others to follow and leads by example.

If you are not an MLM Leader and would like to be then listen up! Being an MLM Leader is all about your production, your personal growth and your vision.MLM Leader

Production, Growth, Vision

Some people make this business way too hard.

They think they need to know everything.  And this is true whether they are building online or offline.

The truth is, this is the easiest business in the world.  But, it is easy to do and easy not to do.

It begins with your “Production”.

Production (recruiting) comes down to two things:

  • Prospecting (finding people to talk to)
  • Talking to them (giving your presentation)

Who do you look for when you are prospecting?

I think recruiting is easiest when you talk to people who are dissatisfied.

Dissatisfied with what?

People who are dissatisfied with their income, their career, their challenges (not having enough) and fun (again not having enough).

Your role as a mlm leader is to learn to ask good questions to determine where people are in their life then to see if you can help them.

This is where your “Growth” comes into play.

When you are a mlm leader you will be constantly working on yourself.  Your personal growth happens when you read books, listen to audios and go to seminars that help you to become a more effective communicator.

And please, do not even begin to tell me that you do not have 30 minutes a day to focus on personal growth.  EVERYONE does.

If you are not doing it then you just have not made it a priority.

A developed MLM Leader will cross paths with a dissatisfied prospect they will quickly and easily be able to establish rapport and find out what’s missing in their and life and where the prospect wants to go.

Do you like where this is going?

Next come ‘Vision”.

Once you find out about this prospect you can do what I call ‘future pacing’.

Future pacing means you paint a new picture of possibilities for them.

A new vision for their future, one that takes them from where they are to where they want to go, they will love you for this.

They will immediately see you as a leader because you have instilled new hope and new possibilities.

Can You Be Bold MLM Leader?

My personal leadership style is direct and to the point. I don’t tell people what they want to hear, I am confident enough in my mlm leader abilities to speak the truth, which at times may sting a little.

I always ask for permission by saying something like this, “May I have you permission to speak boldly and directly to you?” The always say, “Yes of course.”

Now while this might seem a little intense, I share this because I care. And I have found that people really appreciate the direct approach.

If you really want to become an MLM Leader then you must see your business as a multi-million dollar income producing business.

Over the past 18 years of doing this profession full time, I have indeed earned millions of dollars as an MLM Leader and I have helped people do the same thing. I can’t begin to count the number of people who have earned tens of thousands of dollars because I came into their life.

MLM leadership is very rewarding on an emotional level.  Everyday you have an opportunity to change someone’s life–for real!

To reach the high levels of MLM leader success, you MUST surround yourself with mlm leaders who have been where you want to go.  You must study and practice what leader do.

That makes sense doesn’t it?

People often wonder what’s the best way to be a leader?

The answer is to lead by example.

Meaning you should always be recruiting. You should always work your butt of to be at the top of the leader boards of your company contests (why do you think they call them leader boards?).

Not everyone is up for the challenges of being an MLM Leader or building a business, that’s OK.mlm leader

But, if that’s what you want then you better suit up and get recruiting.

Will you have tough days? Of course.

Will you get a lot of people saying “no” to you? I hope so because the number of “Nos” you get every day has a direct correlation to the number of “Yeses” you get.

Leaders do get down but they do not stay down.

I mean when that ideal prospect does not get started, sure it is disappointing but only for a few minutes.  Leaders do not dwell on any thing or negative event for days. That’s what amateurs do.

The MLM Leader is on a mission and is focused on what they want to accomplish.

The strongest leaders I know have a routine and good habits for developing themselves and their business.

Your MLM Leader Homework

So your homework is to find three things in your routine or habits that is NOT leader like (be honest) and change them. Write down an action plan that helps you become a stronger leader.

If you need help with your recruiting then I recommend this course, it is one of the best I have gone through.

    Hi Terry

Great post but what is the real deal about being an MLM leader ?

If you are a Leader in MLM for example and have a large list, that list actually is worth real money.

If an MLM Company approaches you because they know you are a Leader as you describe

will they give you some sort of advance to motivate you to promote

their product to your list ?

Having built distribution networks in the publishing industry i know exactly how much work it takes to

build lists and if i signed a large name i payed advances because i knew i had sales guaranteed.

If you become a leader in MLM is that the same ?

    Must be…right ?

    Keep the good work up

    • Terry Petrovick Says:

Being a leader in MLM means you have built a large team and there is duplication. Building a BIG List does NOT = Being a MLM Leader.

It means you are a good marketer and there is a huge difference.

There are a lot of head hunters out there and people who will jump from deal to deal. The reality with those people is they are chasing the money which never really results in the serious money that an MLM Leader will create.

Because the magic a MLM Leader has is in the relationships they create.

      Make sense?

      Thanks for stopping by… Corrado.

      Best of Success,

Ah, the dissatisfied ones are always eager to hear more. But as you stated, we have to get into a routine in order to reach our goals and become the leaders we aspire to be.

You’re the perfect example Terry. Thank you for always showing us the way and opening our eyes to things we can definitely do better.

Hope your week is going well.

    Hi Terry
“easy to do and easy not to do” I have heard you say that many times now and it is so true.
A great post and thanks for being such a wonderful leader and example.

      You know it Sue!

Building this business because it is so easy is mostly a head game. All too often we make things up in our head that do not serve us. Asking someone a simple question like are you open…is very easy to say.

I’m wondering why more people do not do it more often…could it be ego?

  6. Viola Tam Says:

    Hi Terry,

A very insightful message! I love the way that you focus on leader quality!

Leading by example is something that some leaders did to achieve great results BUT failed to do continually….and they paid the price! I saw that happened. When the leader began to be complacent and living in his own comfortable world – not prospecting, recruiting, training, etc, the aspiring team leaders suffer!

I love your ‘future pacing’ too! I have learned a lot from Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter about the importance of ‘painting a picture’ so that our prospects can *see* how life could be very different!

Leaders are able to have that vision for the new team members, They believe in them before they believe in themselves! I am blessed to have met such an amazing true leader too!

    Thanks for your wisdom, Terry!

Thanks for the kind words Viola. We all need someone in our life to believe in us. This professional allows us to give hope and new possibility where there is none. I love that.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  7. David Sharp Says:

I especially like the bit where you ask your prospects permission to speak boldly and directly to them. Let them know how it really is in this business from the word go and then their expectations are set at the right level.

  8. Marilyn Arriaga Says:

I have taken many notes from this post, thank you. People say I have many leadership qualities, I see some but not all in myself. So for me since others see it that must mean I have yet to do as you say. Find where I’m lacking and implement actions and thoughts and have confidence in myself to become that leader others see in me.

Thank you again for the eye opener

Write this down and look at it during the day “I am the example for other people to follow.”

This helped me show up differently as though people were watching (they actually are).

      Thanks for stopping by Marilyn.

  9. Juli Becker Says:

I think the conversation between you and Corrado is an interesting one. Your post too. Since you have been undoubtedly mentored by the great Larry Thompson, you are undoubtedly a true MLM leader. And an inspiring one at that!

I often wonder as I reflect on my own journey whether or not I have what it takes to be an MLM leader, or if I am going to become a wealthy affiliate marketer. Truth be told, I have sold more affiliate products and have a larger list than I have sold anything in our great MLM company. Only time will tell. But I certainly LOVE getting my monthly coins.

Envious (in a good way) =),

Just yesterday I was reading a book by the great Mark Yarnell. One of my take away points is you should commit and only master one thing if you truly want to earn $100,000/month. Sure makes you think…

  10. Alan Turner Says:

Hi Terry, this business is about helping people, nothing more nothing less! Help them and ultimately you will receive what you desire!

I think honesty is the best way to go, we have become too “PC” with too many things, and at the end of the day, people need to hear the hard truths, because only once they have heard and digested them can they move on and succeed, no point wallowing in self pity because things have not worked out quite the way you think they should have!

I have to agree that a leader leads from the front, by example as you say! It is the only way I know. Great post as usual Terry!
