The best way to build your business with referrals is…

Put relationships first.

My question is do you do or attempt to that?

In order to build your business with referrals it needs to be obvious to people that the relationship you have with people IS MORE IMPORTANT than any profits on your products or services you have to offer.

How do you do this?

By asking questions, listening to their answers and truly responding to their needs, not your desires: the client first, then the product or service.

When you work like this, people will gladly refer anyone they can to you since you care about them and others.

The Value of the Relationship

When you receive a referral, you carry a responsibility to take care of the person you are referred to.

Why?

Because of the relationship you have with the original person who gave you the referral is more important than any product or service you have to offer.

Then as the referrals see how you treat them, they will get your integrity and perpetuate the relationship.

The Four Different Types of People

We all see Business and Relations through 4 different windows:

The word on the left is how people see you and how you are naturally. The word on the right is how you are typically in a business relationship.

Business/Business: this person usually has a hard time with the referral system because of the time it takes to build a strong relationship.  Once they get results then they can justify the time required because the business it creates…then they buy into it.

Business/Relational: this person typically leads with business, but has a great ability to develop deep relationships once the business is established.

Relational/Business: this person loves meeting people and getting to know them but when the topic changes to business, they start thinking strategically.

Relational/Relational: this person loves building relationships…how to be liked or love others, and if they ever think of the business ramifications, they will justify them in some relational way.

The Principles of How to Build Your Business with Referrals

Would you like to wake up every morning confident that you have a system that works for you using the most powerful and most economical marketing known to mankind – word of mouth?

It is not who you know, it is who your contacts/clients know that is important.

Build a list of contacts/clients (or better yet all the people you know).

Rank your list ABCD

A: those most likely to refer you; they are your advocates, your champions.

B: are those you think can champion your cause and refer you if they get enough education and you are consistent with your contact

C: are those you are not sure about, but are hopeful, and so you keep communication open

D: are those you want to DELETE, you do not want to be in business with so you delete them

Putting together a system to Build Your Business with Referrals

A’s: Are prime so need to be a small group…in other words, they are those you treat with incredible honor, most time and most marketing dollars on them.

With the ranking system it will give you the ability to be proactive with all people, you will see all your friends and acquaintances as long-term relationships. You will not feel the rush to present your business except with those where it makes sense.

You must educate your clients through what you say and what you send them on a consistent basis.  Use high tech but keep it high touch.

When to Keep In Touch

Your C’s receive something of value every quarter

Your B’s receive something of value every other month

Your A’s receive monthly/weekly communication from you

This can easily be accomplished with an auto responder system if you have one.

Remember, in order to build your business with referrals, people must get that the relationship you have with them IS MORE IMPORTANT than any profits.

How to Approach People You Don’t Know About Your Homebased Business

Last night on a team training we got into a discussion about how to do homebased business prospecting right.

The truth is the ONLY thing we can control in a homebased business whether it be MLM, Network Marketing or Direct Sales is the number of people we expose to our products and services.

The truth is everyone wants more homebased business leads. Some say they don’t have people to talk to. The reality is great prospects are all round us.

As we discussed on our call, finding or creating new mlm leads intimidates most people. It is crazy when you stop and think about it, getting new homebusiness leads is easy to do and easy not to do.

A Secret to Getting more Homebased Business Leads

Are you ready for this?

Don’t talk about your homebased business.

What I mean is don’t go into a pitch fest about how awesome your homebased business or products are when you first talking to prospects.

This is especially true if you are meeting people in the world of social media especially on Facebook.

One of the basic rules on online lead generation is give value and don’t make it about you.  Make it about the prospect.

Again, whether we are talking about getting homebased business leads online or local home based business leads we want to first figure out if the person is interested in what we have to offer.

I believe every presentation should actually be a conversation and in order to do this effective you must know something about the person you are talking to.

Questions are the Answer Homebased Business Whoas 

When I’m out and about and I see someone who has really good energy or an upbeat personality my ears always perk up.

If someone has a magnetic personality (great energy) they probably get pitched by homebased business entrepreneurs all the time.

Here’s how to be a great at Homebased Business Prospecting

• Engage them in conversation, compliment them
• Ask them about what they do, how long they have been doing it
• What to they like about it and dislike about it
• Tell them you enjoy helping people and you are a connector
• Be natural

As you ask questions, do it naturally. As Dale Carnegie says, “take a sincere interest in the other person”.

Homebased Business Prospecting Script

Just before you walk away ask, “Just throwing it out there but would you be interested in a side project that doesn’t interfere with what you are doing here at _________(wherever they work).

Your homebased business prospect will say:

• No thanks
• What is it?
• Sure

When they give you a positive response say, “Cool, what’s going on in your life that has got you open?” Listen carefully.

Then say, “I don’t have time to explain everything right now. Give me your contact info and I will email you some info, when do you think you can look at it and when would be a good time for me to follow up with you to see what you think?”

You now have to make sure you send your homebased business lead the email info, remember to compliment them, say that you can help them and be sure to follow up when they asked you to.

This is one of the biggest prospecting mistakes of homebased business reps–they drop the ball when they are supposed to follow up.

Make this a habit and watch your homebased business grow and proper.

Remember don’t be the rep that has verbal diarrhea all over the homebased business prospect.  Make it about the prospect not about you.

Discover how to introduce yourself in a memorable way that will have people lining up to ask you for your business card!

If you are in an MLM, Network Marketing or a Direct Sales company then today’s topic is for you.  It is for those of you who attend networking groups on a regular basis.

You know the kind I’m talking about, BNI group (Business Network International), Lead Exchange Groups or even Chamber meetings.  These same principles apply to building your business online especially if you are doing video marketing. What you are going to learn is…

How to Introduce Yourself

What typically happens at these networking events?

Everyone sits around a table, the chairperson says this is how to introduce yourself, say your name, company name and what you do.

It starts like this…

“Hi my name is Joe Smith I own Joe Smith cleaning company. For 13 years we have been cleaning home and offices in the area. We pride ourselves (he says this with zero enthusiasm) in using no chemicals and we come to your house rain or shine.”

The next person, sitting down says, “My name is Phyllis Brown, and I work with the Fat Loss Juice.” (At this point, you see people playing with their blackberries and iPhones not paying any attention to her). She continues by saying, “Fat Loss Juice has been in business for 35 years and we help people with our yummy juices, shakes and cookies. A good referral for me is someone who wants to lose weight.”

The next person starts with “My name is Tom Deck, and I work with …” at this point you are totally bored out of your mind!

This goes on for 20 people…and no one is paying attention! Because no one knows how to introduce yourself.

What’s the problem here? 

You have seen this when people market online too.  They get one of these training system and self replicated websites that they have seen many times there is nothing new!

EVERYONE IS SOUNDS THE SAME!

You need to understand that sameness will kill you.

Learn how to introduce yourself in a creative and memorable way.

You want to stand out don’t you?

In fact you want to be always remembered as that creative guy or gal.

How do you do that?

You do what everyone is not doing.

Let’s look back at what people were doing in our scenario…they were told this is how to introduce yourself (in the wrong way, don’t be a sheep and flow the herd..lol), they were all sitting down, they all used the same basic script or formula, it is the one they use every week, week after week hoping to burn it into people’s mind. As soon as the person before them finishes they jump in. And worst of all they lack enthusiasm.

I’m sure all of these people are great people they just lack any creative communication skills.

How do you set yourself apart?

Since everyone sits, you stand up.

Everyone begins with his or her name and business, you end with your name and business.

Most people are dull, be interesting.

Now you area asking me, “Well Terry how in the world do I do that?”

This is where the magic is…

When it is your turn, you stand, you pause to create silence and scan the group, this gets attention then you tell a short story and end with your name and a benefit of your biggest benefit of your product/service. 

This is how to introduce yourself…it flat out works!

Let me give you a couple of examples…

Let’s go back to Phyllis the Fat Loss Juice lady.

It is her turn, she stands up, pauses and scans the room “It was 8am on July 3^rd 2010, I was packing for a trip to the beach. I tried my bathing suit on from last year, (she pauses and looks down) to my surprise I could barely get into it to. It was not pretty. From that day forward I vowed that I would get back to a size 2. I did it.  My name is Phyllis Brown, and help people look, trim and sexy by shedding their fat.”

Now you might be saying but wait she did not mention the company name or the products!  Well the truth is people don’t care about that they care about what those things can do for them.

Here’s another example, this one is focus on collecting silver coins. Remember you stand up pause and scan then say something like this…

“The year is 1966.  In 1966 you could have purchased a drop dead gorgeous candy apple red mustang for $2500 paper dollars or 2500 silver dollars. But the year is 2012. 2500 paper dollars can buy you what? A nice set of tires? Perhaps a down payment?  (you let out a disgusting laugh and shake your head left to right) Those same 2500 “silver dollars” could get you 3 loaded Mustangs plus a luxury cruise around the world! My name is Terry Petrovick and I show people how to create, collect and preserve their wealth with silver and gold coins.”

Can you see how attention getting that is?

Remember when it comes to how to introduce yourself, do it in a memorable way .  You do this by telling a story to get into people’s emotions and imaginations and be sure to end with the biggest benefit of your product or service.

And if you go to the same groups every week change up your stories.  Believe me you will set yourself a part and you will getting more leads and having more quality conversations than ever before.

The Science of an Effective Phone Interview with a Home Business Lead

Ever wondered how long that first call with a home business lead should last?

I believe the length of the first call should be based on the chemistry going on during the call. Most should be kept under 15 minutes.  Some might last less than 5 minutes. 

Once you start doing a lot of calls, you’ll be able to tell within 60 seconds if this person is someone you want to invest your time in.  If, on the other hand, you’ve made a connection, you’ve probably also made a new friend, and before too long, you’ll have a new business partner.

Something else you want to consider in your prospecting is the availability of your prospects.  One of the most frustrating parts of building a home based business is trying to get hold of an uncommitted or uninterested prospect on the phone. 

When they have no relationship with you, the prospect is not very committed to you and doesn’t care about your process or how you spend your time.  As a result, more times than not, they are not available.  

You must make sure every home based business lead understands that what you have can help them reach their goals. 

By asking good questions, you will understand their needs and build a good relationship with your prospect early on.  It will save you a ton of time in the long run.

How do you customize your Home Based Business presentation?

Remember this: a good presentation is not a presentation but a conversation!  So how can you tell the story of your home based business in a conversational manner? Your first step is to find out about your prospect.  What are their needs and goals?  What’s driving them to earn more money, and what would that do to improve their Lifestyle?

Tip:     Any time you get a response from a prospect, whether it be from home business lead or a self generated MLM lead, it is CRITICAL that you call that prospect back ASAP!  The longer you wait, the more likely your prospect will forget you and your site.  I set a goal to call them back within 24 hours.  Normally, it’s within 4 hours. When I do this, they always remember me.  I have now set myself apart from anyone else who might be pursuing them for their opportunity.

Here's a great little home business lead script you can use. 

You say,     “Hi, is (use their first name)  there?”
They say, “Yes, this is _____.”
You say,     “______, this is (your first name) how’s it going? Do you have a minute or have I caught you at a bad time?”
They say,    “I have time.”
You say,    “You recently expressed an interest in generating some additional income from home, how can I help you?”
They say,     “Whatever they say.”
You say,     “May I ask you a few questions?”
They say,    “Sure.”
You say,     “What are you looking for in a business?”
They say,     “Blah, Blah, Blah.”
You say,     “What kind of work do you do today?”
They say,  “Sure.”
You say,    “Have you ever had your own business before?”
They say,    “Yes”
You say,    “Can you tell me a little about it?”
They say,    “Blah, Blah, Blah”
You say,     “What did you enjoy about it?” (These are Hot Buttons)
They say,    “Blah, Blah, Blah”
You say,     “What did you not like about it?”(These are Hot Buttons)

Whether or not they had a home business

You say,     “What are you looking for now in a home business?”  (Hot Button)
They say,    “Blah, Blah, Blah”
You say    “How much money are you wanting to generate in the first 12 months of your business knowing that you’ll be starting at ground zero and building it up?”
They say,     “$3000/month”   (If they don’t know, they really are not that serious.  Watch for these numbers being too high and unrealistic.  If someone wants to make six figures and only work 10 hours a week, that’s not real.)
You say,    “That’s good.  How many hours a week can you devote to your business per week to create that kind of income for yourself?”  This is where it can start to get iffy. You are looking for 7-10 hours/week. More hours are a more serious commitment.  Your goal is to make sure their income goals are in alignment with their actions.
They say,  “Probably 10 to 20 hours/week”
You say,     “Why do you think you will succeed in an independent business, and why should I invest my time in helping you to succeed?”
They say, “Blah, Blah, Blah.”
You say,    “Great!  Let me ask you one more question before I tell you about our company and products.  If our company and products meet your expectations and the system for success that I have for you meets your needs and you feel good about it–and I show you how you can meet your income goals, is a $xxxx start-up kit in your budget?”   

Note:     If they say yes, you definitely want to spend time explaining the home based business now and how they can benefit. 

If they say “No”
You say,    “We have another less expensive way to get started that costs $xx, but you won’t be able to earn the type of income that you are looking for.  Is that in your budget?”  If they say, “Yes” spend some time with them just not as much as you would as a serious business builder.  If they say “No”  you can say, “This business is probably not for you.”  If you are interested in being a preferred customer we have that as an option this is similar to a Sam’s or Costco membership. Would you like to do that now?”
   

When working with the cold market home based business leads or even online mlm leads that you have generated, you really want to focus your energy and time with the people who are serious about creating a change in their lifestyle. 

Talk is cheap.  I can’t tell you how many prospects have told me they were going to be big business builders.  Some have even asked me to pay for their BIG Kit, saying they will make me rich.  Don’t fall into this trap.  Look for those who are willing to walk their talk–making a time and financial commitment!

7 Minutes to a Remarkable Life?

Could it really be possible to create a remarkable life 7 minutes at a time?

The answer is yes!

As we wrap up 2011 and reflect what we have accomplished or perhaps a better question is what have we not accomplished but intended to accomplish?

We really need to stop and evaluate where we are spending our time and is that investment in time fulfilling us and taking us closer to creating the remarkable we truly desire?

Answering “Yes” is what will make you happy.

A couple of weeks ago I received my executive book summary of  “The 7 Minute Solution” where Darren Hardy reviews the top business books.

I was very intrigued.

I immediately went to amazon.com and purchased the book.

By the way this was just released December 27, 2011.

Here’s what I discovered…

This is the perfect book for any one who wants to be fulfilled with their life.

I discovered that this book while in not tactical for building a network marketing organization or home business has everything to do with building a loyal team.

As a leader, I feel it is our job to lead people and to assist people to create a remarkable life…whatever that means to the individual.

Here are a few key questions that really caught my attention. I have added some comments to tie them into our business.

1) Are you really aware of what you want from your life (or business)?
Life will give you exactly what you demand, but first you must clarify your ideas in writing and create an action plan.

2) Are you motivated?
Know the force that pushes you to stretch yourself for your goals. Create 90-day goals and then break down into mini goals and you will experience the thrill of success more often.

3) Are you growing and Learning?
Your brain has incredible potential but is functions on a use it or lose it basis. Growth is critical because it ignites your enthusiasm for letting go of old habits. (Hmmm am I talking to you now?)

4) Are you engaged?
Are you focused on your highest pay off activities (prospecting, presenting, following up and enrolling) or are you getting distracted?

5) Are you persevering?
Making significant changes requires perseverance. Why? Bad habits are hard to break. Sometimes by shifting our language or how we spend our time and who we spend our time with can yield massive breakthroughs.

6) Are you using your talents?
When you focus on your strengths, for example building relationships as opposed to trying to learn all the online marketing strategies you will build your team faster and become profitable more quickly.

7) Are you living with faith and belief?
Faith and belief compels you to look beyond yourself, to reach out to others and give of yourself.  Knowing that your business and products help others are key to you staying in the game and developing a business that will lead to a 6 or 7 figure income.

As you can see these questions really apply to everyone no matter what their profession.

At the end of the day, my belief is that we MUST be consciously aware of what we truly desire and focus all of our energy on accomplishing that.

How do you see yourself?  Do you see yourself as a successful networker?

I invite you to take on the identity of a master networker.

What are the character traits of a master networker?

I believe a master networker is a leader.  They are servants, connectors and helpers to the masses.   They bring value that attracts others to follow them.

They help people to see new possibilities and most important…they are not attached to the person’s choice to get involved with your product or serve.

A master networker knows what they have to offer is not for everyone and that is perfect.  Let me repeat that… what they have to offer is not for everyone and that is perfect.

Here’s a great question

What’s the difference between the people between $10/month and $10,000/month?

The person who earns $10,000/month has exposed their products and business to more people they have helped more people and they have heard “no I’m not interested” more than the $10/month person.  They have also developed themselves as a team leader and coached other people to do the same.

There a great book I recommend to people who are serious about building there business it is called “Go for NO” get it you will love it.

Here’s a truth…

The only thing that we can control is the number of people we approach and expose to our business and products.

We can’t control if they like it or not, join us or not.

And as a master networker you are looking for people who are looking for what you have to offer.  If people are interested great, if people are not interested great.

You should look at it simply as another day at the office.  Do not get all hung up on the choices people make.

Track these 3 things

The # of people you talk to every day about your business

The # of presentations you give a day, this could be a website or a 1 on 1

The # of follow ups you do / day

This is what a master networker does, they prospect, present, and follow up.

What does a master networker spend their time on? Exposing their product and business to as many people as possible.

Master networkers know that everyone is not up for the task of being a leader and developing a strong business.

There is no short cut to the top, but once you get there things do get easier.  Every decision you make and how you spend your time has a long-term affect on your business.

Understand that you will attract who you are.  If you are not feeling confident about your skills and leadership then get some one in your upline who is successful that you can work with and do 3 way calls or 2 on 1 meetings.

You can only control your actions.  You can’t control if someone joins or not.  You can’t control if someone is going to stick to the business or not.  The lesson is to not beat yourself up when other people make decisions for themselves.  It is not about you, it is about them. Do NOT make it about you!

The truth is no one can ever fail in MLM they can only quit.

A master networker does not take other people’s actions or choices personally.

Your job is to look for people who are looking for what you have.  Your job is to lead by example; your job is to keep the pedal down until you reach your goals.

Let me ask you a question, do ever struggle in your business, do you get frustrated because you are not where you want to be?  I know I have.

Would you like to know the reason for this? Are you ready for a BOLD Answer?

Your lifestyle can be totally different two years from now if you create some shifts in your thinking and actions. I have seen this happen first hand over and over again.

The fact is we all have challenges… it is called the fabric of life.

You are here for answers so let me help you create some positive shifts in your business and your life

First, take responsibility for what you have created or perhaps better said what you have not created.

The simple act of doing this will help you stand out as a leader.  Others may not see this act but you will know it.  You are the most important person there is to impress.

By taking a stand for your future you can be proud of yourself.

Here’s a team-building tip:

When you talk to your team members, let them know you struggle at times and that you have challenges too.  It also shows people that you are vulnerable which most people find attractive. You are like them and the are not alone.

Success in life, in relationships, and in business is built on the small decisions you make.

Let me ask you a question, are you up for a shift that will help you change your thinking and self image?

Tonight when your head first touches your pillow I want you think about what you have created up until this point in your business then say to yourself “Everything that has happened to me has happened for a reason and it has prepared me for what I am about to create.”

Then image in vivid detail what your ideal business will look like.

Let me share mine… My business is perfect.  It generates massive passive income to me every single month like clockwork and it continually grows.  I get to work with people that I really enjoy being with. I get to help people from all walks of life and circumstances and assist in their transformation into leaders.  I have the privilege of speaking in front of large groups of people sharing my message of hope, new possibilities and financial freedom.  I hear from people every day on how much of a difference I have made in their life.

My team is highly motivated and self-directed. They are teachable coachable and trainable.  They talk to people everyday and support the people they bring into the business.  We work together to develop innovative marketing solutions and change people’s lives every single day.  My team makes great money, which allows them to create the quality of life they desire for their family. Abundance is all around us.

When I get up in the morning I actually write those two paragraphs in my journal.  I invite you to do the same.  This exercise only takes a few minutes and  I think you will be impressed on what happens to you and your business with this simple daily activity.

I am so proud to be a network marketing professional.  It has given me my life back and allowed me to become that dad and husband that I wanted to be.

I have really made a difference in people’s lives. I have really made a difference for my family.  Both of my kids from ages 8 & 10 have had two full time stay at home parents.  How many people do you know who can say that?  I have worked my butt off and I did it for the love of my family

And in the process I have helped people to earn over $1,000,000 cash money in their bank account.  Together we have had a positive impact on tens of thousands of people around the world.  How cool is that?  How many people in corporate America can say they have done that?  The answer is not many. This profession offers the same to you.

This profession has a level playing field.

What do I mean by that?  Everyone starts at the same place and your income is a reflection of your contribution of your business and product movement to the market place.

So why do some struggle and some succeed?

All too often people live in the past and maintain old habits; they focus on what is not working instead of focusing on what they can do in the future to create the desired lifestyle.  They don’t set goals, they don’t track their results and they don’t make adjustments.

I’ve been in this profession full-time for now for 17 years. And during that time you can believe I’ve experienced my fair share of challenges and setbacks.  At times, I accomplish a goal then get knocked back down.  I remember talking to an industry veteran once and told him I felt like I was in a bubble and could never break through the $5,000/month barrier. I felt I would push, push, push only to get slapped back down.  It was very frustrating.  Can you relate?

He suggested that I continue to work on myself and to get a coach. Which I did and boy did that ever make a positive difference

It is not what happens to you that matters, it is how you react to it that counts.

Often people will make a comment to my wife Amy and myself and they we have it easy.

Well the reality is we do not focus on the challenges or problems that we have.  We do not make them the center of our life.  In fact, we have the core believe that something good comes out of every situation and only good things happen to us.

How do you think this makes us feel?  I can tell you, we feel empowered and in control!

When I have a challenge, I have found it is best to look at it square in the eye and face it head on.  Maybe it is because my dad told me when I was going to college that there is a brick wall in front of you and you can’t go over it; under it or around it you must go through it.

Most people call this persistence and a do whatever it takes attitude.

Zig Zigler says, you must adopt an “It’s Now or Never” attitude and get rid of your ‘stinking thinking’.

No matter where you are, where you have been, what counts most is where you are going.

Everyone in MLM or network marketing experiences the frustrations of putting time into people who say they want success but simply do not follow through.

The lesson that I have learned is to listen to what people say then watch what they do.  Spend your time with people who deserve your time and not with the ones who need your time

Watch your thinking. There is no need to get emotional about it, it is just the way it is.

I invite you to learn to be patient with the process and to stay true to your dreams and desires.

You must start to take responsibility for your success.  No one else will.

Here a three action items that you can do today to create a better tomorrow.

1)   Have clearly defined goals
2)   Visualize the success of your ideal business and lifestyle
3)   Stay disciplined and focused

Let me wrap this up by sharing what one of my coaches told me when I was stuck at $5,000/month and just could not break through.

She said, “Terry for things to change, you must change.  For things to get better, you must get better.”

The biggest “mistake” people make on LinkedIn is to not make their Profile attractive to their ideal business partners or prospects.

Someone who is introduced to you via a mutual contact, but has never heard of or from you, will look for you on LinkedIn or via a search engine like Google. If they then find out that you are indeed the expert you say you are (remember it’s about the Trust factor and Social Proof), they might become VERY interested in talking to you.

Another benefit of having an appealing LinkedIn Profile is that it allows you to increase your visibility, which supports your personal branding and online reputation.

A good Profile increases your visibility on LinkedIn and also on the web. Google and other search engines index the information from your Public Profile on LinkedIn.  Since LinkedIn has a high Page Ranking in Google (indicating that LinkedIn is a very popular website) the Profiles will also appear high in search results.

Remember: LinkedIn is a business networking website.

The focus is on the business side of people (with a small part for personal interests). More and more people use LinkedIn to look someone up before they have a meeting with them. This means that LinkedIn is the first professional impression you make on someone. Make it a good one!

How to improve your Profile on LinkedIn and on the web

Before you begin, turn the notifications off

When you are going to make several changes to your LinkedIn Profile over one or two days, it is best to turn off the updates for your network. Otherwise they are notified every time you click “save” and that might annoy them (and even hide your updates, or worse—remove you from their connections).

On top of the page, click on the arrow in front of your name and click on “Settings”. Usually you now have to give your password since LinkedIn wants to be sure it is you making the changes. Under the title “Privacy Settings”, click on “Turn on/off your activity broadcasts”.

Then check off the box “Let people know when you change your profile, make recommendations, or follow companies”.

Your “Teaser”: Picture, Name, Professional Headline, Location and Industry, Status Update

Why do we call this part the “teaser”?

Because this is what people will see when you end up in a search result or when you contribute to a Discussion. This part should encourage them to read the rest of your Profile.

1. Your Profile Photo: use a professional photo.

• There is not much space for your photo—your head will be enough. Although it is not necessary to upload a photo, this makes it easier for others to remember and recognize you. It also helps before a meeting if the face is familiar. You help other people to feel more comfortable with you by uploading a professional, up-to-date photo and make it visible to everybody who visits your Profile (if you don’t want to do that, you can make it visible only to your first degree connections or to your network = degree 1, 2 and 3).
• You can click on someone’s picture to enlarge it, which helps later recognition. This means you can upload a higher-resolution image (up to 4 MB).
• Since you now can upload a high-resolution photo, you might want to have it taken by a professional.

2. Name:  If you want to be found by other people who know you, use the name you use in a

professional environment—no nicknames.

• If you are married and have taken the name of your partner, people who knew you before (for example in college) won’t be able to find you. So add your former/maiden name.
• If you want only your first-degree contacts to see your last name, you can choose to only show your first name and the first letter of your last name.

3. Professional Headline: by default it is your current function.

• Use words that are benefit driven and get your prospect’s attention. Give more detail than on your business card! For example: “online marketing coach specialized in Facebook marketing solutions” is much clearer than “online marketer”. Describe how what you do helps people, i.e., instead of “Owner, ABC Press” choose, “Helping writers to self-publish”.

Many people don’t dare to make their Professional Headline specific because they might miss out.  Someone important might not find them.

Actually, it works the other way: the people you REALLY want to connect with will find you more easily if they are drawn to your headline!

Of course, most people never consider to whom they want to appeal and as a consequence don’t get results either.

Your headline is critical because this are the first words people see when you show up in their search results, or what is shown when you answer a question in Answers or in a Discussion. The headline will encourage or discourage people to read your Profile. So polish its appeal!

Remember this…

When changing your professional headline the information in the “current” field won’t change.

In order to stand out, add a personal element (e.g. happy chocoholic like Bert) to initiate a response from others. LinkedIn is a platform for individuals, and people tend to like others who share their common interests. If you are looking for a “Quality Manager” and get 1.5 million results, who stands out? On which profile do you click and why?

4.          Location: Although you have to provide your postal code, this is not shared on LinkedIn. For privacy reasons, LinkedIn works with geographic areas instead of exact addresses.

5.          Primary industry of expertise: Complete this field to find colleagues in other companies in your industry, and to be findable by them.

6.          Status Update: tell other people what you are doing, this helps to raise your visibility and credibility and hence is good for your personal branding.

3 Tactics For Getting You New Leads Every Day

Lead generation have been around forever… way before the Internet people relied on their hustle to find new prospects for their business.

What you are going to learn about today are 3 proven tactics for lead generation.

Get new leads every day!

I have a question for you…

Are you a hoper or a hustler?

In his book “Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion” Gary Vanderchuk talks about having hustle, busting your butt and pushing yourself to make it happen.

It is a great book that talks a lot about your self-discipline and commitment for success. I highly recommend it.

Tactic 1: Work Expos

In my past I have done all kinds of Expos and Trade Shows and you know what?

These are taking place all year long. Today you can find Christmas Shows, Women’s Shows then there are Home & Garden Shows and Spring Shows and don’t forget the Car Shows, Boat Shows and Fishing Shows and Guns Shows. I could go on but you get the point I’m sure.

I have worked these as an exhibitor and attendee. I stopped spending money on expensive booths and just focused on talking to the exhibitors.

Why?

The exhibitors are hungry and the attendees were typically just curious.

I don’t know about you but I’m looking for motivated people with ambition, not tire kickers who have an interest but no commitment.

Talk to everyone, set a goal to collect X business cards before you come home. This approach is easy to do and yes, easy not to do. I always carry a pad just in case people do not have business cards. You must be prepared.

Remember, you are a hustler right?

Tactic 2: Use Sizzle Cards

A sizzle card could be a business card, a post–it note or a drop card that has a compelling headline and a phone number to call on it. This approach does require a minimal investment.

An example headline is “Earn $250,000/year from home. Don’t believe it don’t call. 1-800-xxx-xxxx”.

A great place to direct all these leads is to a Google voice mail. (it’s free)

You can do a Google search to find out how to set one of these up.

When you follow up and call the prospect, remember you are the one interviewing them. Be sure they qualify for your time.

Tactic 3: Business Card Collecting

This is as easy as it sounds. Just go around your area and collect as many business cards as possible.

It is really easy to get 20+ of these per day.

You can find them on cork boards, in restaurants, counter tops, styling salons, barbershops, auto shops, and coffee shops.

The fact is anyone who puts his or her business card out is looking for more income!

These people are motivated you just have to find out if they are open to look at what you have to offer.

How to Talk to Leads?

I’ve done 2-hour workshops on this alone.

Here’s a successful dialog I use…
“Hi (their first name), I picked up your card today and I wanted to ask you a quick question, would that be ok? (I always like to ask for permission as opposed to just talking at them. They always say yes.) Are you open to a side project that doesn’t interfere with what you are currently doing? If you are interested I can get you some info, in not no big deal.”

It is simply a casual question…are you open?

Then you send them to a website or invite them to a meeting or whatever you would like for them to see.

All of these 3 approaches will work if you work them.

Consistency is key to your success. AND all or these require any technical or Internet skills.

They are simple and they are duplicable.

Remember do NOT be attached to the outcome of these conversations.

Entrepreneurs Get Paid For Results, Not Time Spent

How to Create a Social Media Marketing Schedule that Works

It’s easy to get into social media for the wrong reasons and to post too much or too little. Here’s how to balance out your social media efforts.

Why have you joined the social media world?

Are you ego based or interaction based? Are you real or automated?

What is your desired outcome?

Which social networks should you be active in?

Some people don’t want to engage in the conversation. They simply collect followers and friends in order to have bragging rights every time they collect another thousand.

But connecting, following or befriending just anyone dilutes your influence and standing among those in your audience.

Others join because they feel they must. They spend a few days setting up their profiles and then abandon them when other tasks call.

The real motivation should be connection.

Connecting with like-minded people, people who are your ideal prospect or ideal business partner is what will grow your business.

Think about how you can add value to the community.  This is called social equity.

Make it about your followers, not about you and your agenda. Don’t be desperate or spammy.  Don’t always be pitching your products or business. Your goal should be to educate, enlighten, entertain and engage your followers.

Some people get involved and hurt themselves…do you know anyone like this?  Let’s look at blogging…

If someone does not regularly post to their blog for weeks at a time, what message do they give the reader? Inconsistent, uncommitted, a part timer.

Probably not the image you really want to portray.

Bloggers like this are distracted, disorganized, sidetracked or perhaps overworked. There’s no method to their madness. Have you seen blogs like this?

Your blogging goal should be consistent, compelling and informative.

Followers in the social networking community are fragile. Therefore you make the commitment to blog if you get started. People will follow a trail of dependable, exciting, instructive trainings. But once the trail goes cold, they’re gone and likely never to return.

Develop your social networking schedule.

It should not run your life but does keep you accountable. The goal should be consistency. Choose a the social networks you want to play in then create schedule and stay the course for at least six months. As you find success, you can slowly grow your social networking persona.

Be sure you have your avatar set up. What’s a avatar it is the image of you that shows up when you leave blog comments.  You can learn more here.

Here’s a sample social networking agenda that you can use until you get your own groove.

Twice Daily in the Morning and Afternoon

• Check Twitter via a program like HootSuite. Respond when necessary. Follow the @replies that make sense.
• Check LinkedIn. Reply to emails and comments when appropriate.
• Scan Twitter followers for relevant conversations to join.
• Check your business’s Facebook Page for questions and respond when necessary.
• Scan Google Alerts for brand and company mentions. Respond as appropriate.

Weekly or on Weekends

• Build Twitter Lists to better organize ongoing discussions and special interest groups. Set up saved searches in Hootsuite to find out if people are talking about you or your company.
• Scan LinkedIn questions from network connections and respond when appropriate.
• Catch up on LinkedIn discussions. Add to discussion when appropriate.
• Send LinkedIn invitations to connect with clients when beginning a new assignment.
• Ask for LinkedIn recommendation after successfully completing a project or engagement.
• Add new content to Facebook like videos or photos.
• Think of ways to repurpose this content and energy to reach a larger audience with the social networking gospel.
• Keep an eye open for new social networking venues, tools, and functionality that will make the social networking experience more enjoyable and easier to traverse.
• Identify new social networking influencers and build relationships where appropriate.

Through the Week

• Mondays: Schedule tweets through HootSuite to go out three times per day at regular intervals.
• Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: Join one hot trend conversation on Twitter, if appropriate, and add new content to Facebook (new items you are selling, photos, discounts and other promotions).

• Fridays: Check traffic at your blog or website.

Obviously, your daily social networking to-do list will be much different, given your available time and commitments. Just be sure to make the schedule livable. If it’s not working, change it. Keep making modifications until it works for you.

The Secret to your success lies here…

Success in business and in life is not as hard as most people think it is.

You might think the secret for has been hidden from you all these years.  In fact, you have probably purchased skill based courses to create the success that you have been looking for.

In this information and technology age we get overwhelmed with marketing messages from people and companies who are trying to influence us to buy their course or product then we will finally become successful.

I think it is fair to say we all want to become successful at some level and yet it seems to allude us.

I’ve discovered that there are four key areas that we must focus on to become successful.  Most people know three out of four of them.

No matter what business you are in the better you are and the more confident you are in these four areas the more successful you will become.

Make no mistake three out of four won’t cut it.

Lessons From a Wanna Be Million Dollar Earner in 1998

Yesterday I got the bug to clean part of my office closet.  I was surprised at the amount of junk I had saved.

I was in major throwaway mode. To my delight, I found some real gems that I think you and I both can learn from.

In 1998, I was at this point in my network marketing career where I had been in involved in about 4 companies in 4 years.  OUCH!

We were tapping into the savings that we set aside for our kid’s college education and Amy, my wife told me to get a ‘real job’ again.

…I had caught the MLM lifestyle bug, I had a dream to be free…

One of my problems was I had met people who had earned millions of dollars in the industry…I just knew in my gut that I could too…but I just didn’t have my act together.

Do you know anyone like that?

In the video below I share some of my lessons (mistakes) from 1998.

By the way, in 2005 I had made my first million dollars in this industry.

That was an incredible time.
