To be successful at selling anything online, whether it would be products or services, you need to have targeted traffic visit your website. Without targeted traffic, you have no chance of creating a successful business online.
Targeted traffic consists of people who are interested in your product offer from the very beginning. In all likelihood, they are looking for a product comparable or similar to what you are offering and find your website via the search engines.
Therefore, making sure your website ranks highly in the search engines is vital to achieving success with your online business. The search engines constantly change the algorithms that determine how a site will rank in their results pages, but a common theme to how your site will rank in their results pages is making sure that your website is relevant to the topic you want to rank highly in.
Since people find topics they are interested in via keywords, or words used to refer to the topic in question, you need to make sure those keywords and related words appear on your site. However, you can overuse those keywords and related words, as the search engines will recognize intentional “stuffing” of specific words and penalize your site by lowering its rankings in their results pages or even remove your site from their results pages entirely.
It’s important that you develop a delicate balance between using the specific keywords yo
u want to rank highly in enough throughout your site and not overusing them where your site will get penalized or banned.

Yes … the article is right on the “money” Terry – this is one of the most important keys to your online success which is often disregarded – targeted traffic is of great value, just traffic volume is of little value. Great material mate & nice clear site … Noel

Nice one Terry. One of my sites gets over 500 visitors from Google every single day and has done for the past 3 years.
It’s all because I have a tightly focused topic area that isn’t too broad. It also means that the people who come to the site through Google are all interested in the topic and are much more likely to buy the products on offer.
Keyword research is very important, and by using Google’s Keyword tool https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/KeywordToolExternal – people can now build sites that have keyword groups that Google likes
The best way to please Google is to play by their rules!!!
Thanks

So true Terry! I remember reading last week that the number 1 and 2 positions get over 66% of the traffic. Get below 3 and 4 and you’re in the single digits. On the second page…. Forget it.

Nice report Terry, often marketers believes that all it takes to earn top spot in search engines is bidding on the right keyword. However, made a very important point in address the power of on-page optimization. On-page optimization is a central to seo as off-page optimization. Keyword stuffing may have been a that worked in the past, but wit google’s ability to detect this flawed marketing we need to take whitehat approach and deliver good content.

Terry –
As a ‘new entry to the arena of internet marketing’, I really value your professionalism, experience, and example … of ID branding, site lay-out, overarching context, squeeze page, opt-in offer, free eBook and back-end options, etc. I found the content of your eBook to be ‘very structural’, which I greatly appreciate as I continue to gain ‘field awareness, strategy and tactics’ in the INM-jungle. This was especially timely — I just logged out of JBudd’s PPC webinar #7 tonight (Mon 11.16.09).
Great leadership on your part, Terry- Thank you. I’m looking forward to tracking you further.

One thing I love about SEO and SEM is that once you perfect it you can truly generate free traffic to your site. To me that is certainly worth investing the time to learn.

Hi Arnold,
I agree 100%. It is all about skill set development.
That’s the way it worked when I trained for my first 26.2 mile marathon as well.
Currently, I’m working to master SEO. Some of the language is greek to me but I’ll get there.
One more thing. Everyone will get a kick out of this…
I’m just starting to train using the P90X muscle building program (fat reduction) and I’m using totally different muscle groups. My muscles hurt so bad when I go to get out of my chair it is ridiculous…but I’ll get through this too.
It’s time for dinner…
I got to get up… but do I really want to eat that bad?
Ouch…I do!
