Hi Terry–enjoyed your video, am following you, have bookmarked your site–great stuff! Q for you: I don’t auto follow anybody, never have (well, except for 24 hrs and I found out that was a huge mistake). And I don’t auto DM, but I do write back sometime later, after following those I follow, and tell them, personally, using their name, about a film of ours that is available now on DVD almost everywhere, “The Sensation of Sight,” starring David Strathairn. Since we’re an indie film company, and don’t have $50M to spend on advertising, Twitter and social media is a great place to spread the word. Lots of people have thanked me for the link, watched the film and liked it alot. Is this a turnoff to some? I do interact with lots of my followers and help them with their stuff, etc. Would love your comments and take on this. (I also follow the 90/10 rule, maybe even too much–do a lot of link sharing & relationship building, more than film PR). Do appreciate your site and glad I found it and you! Thanks for any help you can give. Cheers, Kris

A good reminder that social media is just that, social.

Pitching your deal will only alienate people fast.

It’s fun to respond to “threads” of comments that catch your attention.

Relationships will happen. From there, who knows where that will go,

    Great site, thanks Terry

Terry, Great advice! I agree that I truly get annoyed when I get a follow-back message that tells me about someone’s opportunity.

Let me ask you a question. I put on mine basically thanks for following me and connect with me on Facebook also. I put that there because every time I saw someone else doing it I went to their facebook page and friended them. Now, I’m getting a ton of new friends on Facebook, all who write a personal message, which I love, saying they’re requesting my friendship because I asked them to on Twitter.

What is your opinion on that strategy??

Thanks again for the great advice Terry. Love coming back and reading your posts!
